There are several causes for someone to be obese. A poor lifestyle or lack of free time can be the root of a weight problem for many. One cannot usually pinpoint a specific cause for the extra weight, instead there are several things that have caused it. One factor that many people have to deal with is genetics.
Obesity will often affect many people in a family. It is not uncommon for a person to blame being overweight on the fact that their parents are overweight. But it is not always some weird science that causes a whole family to be overweight. The things that create the weight problem may not be that difficult to understand. A family is more likely to share the same bad habits that can lead to obesity. If one person in the family decides that they need to eat a dinner consisting of fast food every night, then all of the family will eat this. All of the members of a family have to deal with the negative aspects of activities that are sedentary in nature. But parents and kids can work together to develop a healthy lifestyle that they can all benefit from.

Because there may be several people in a family that need to lose weight, the option of using some type of detox program that helps show them how to lose weight fast may not be the best option for a family that decides to lose weight together. It also might not be practical for a whole family to meet in the living room and do their six pack ab exercises on a nightly basis, but there are many other ways that the family can work to get fit together. Exercising together can mean getting out and riding bikes in the evening. Getting outside as a group can be as simple as going out to a local park. Parents and children will be able to grow closer together as they get fit and trim. When it is raining play some games indoors that involve moving around. In order for both the parents and children to get healthy, there must be some type of fitness program that is in the schedule regularly.

The next factor to consider is controlling the food that is being consumed. You can control a diet better if you cook it and serve it yourself instead of letting someone else cook it for you. Get rid of the fatty foods that make up many peoples diets and replace them with foods that are lower in fat and contain more nutrients. Make the serving portions smaller when serving the food. Eating healthy and eating less is a key to a family losing weight. A family can support each other and help keep them from making unhealthy choices. If all of the people in a household are watching what they eat, there is no need to have foods that they are trying to avoid available. There is no need to buy bags of chips and bottles of sodas if no one is going to eat them.

The whole family working to get healthy provides a tremendous amount of support that is hard for people to find elsewhere even on web sites like the biggest loser forum, where people who are trying to lose weight often turn to when they need help in dieting. A family that is working together to lose weight will understand what each other is going through and provide the help when it is needed. Having several people providing the motivation can make it easier for the whole group to lose the weight that they want to.

Being overweight is definitely something that can be mimicked by parents and children. And while family history can be a part of the problem, history can be changed. If a family wants to live a better lifestyle, they need to find a way to do it together and to do the things necessary to live that better lifestyle.
