What is Swine flu?
Swine flu is a respiratory illness found in pigs caused by H1N1 influenza viruses that causes frequent outbreaks in pigs. Humans do not usually get swine flu, but infections in human beings do occur. There was similar flu flu outbreaks occurred in the past. swine flu viruses have been known to spread from person-to-person, but in the past, this type of spreading was limited and not passed beyond three persons.

Is this swine flu virus contagious?
CDC has confirmed that the 2009 swine influenza A (H1N1) virus is contagious and is transmitting from human to human. But, at present, it is not known how often the virus spreads between people.

What are the signs and symptoms of swine flu in people?
The Swine Influenza signs in people are similar to the symptoms of common human flu flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some people have reported diarrhea and vomiting associated with swine flu. In the past, severe illness (pneumonia and respiratory failure) and deaths have been reported with swine flu infection in people. Like seasonal flu, swine flu may cause a worsening of underlying chronic medical conditions.

How does swine flu spread?
Spread of this swine flu virus is believed to be taking place in the same way that seasonal flu spreads. Flu viruses are spread mainly from person to person through coughing or sneezing of people with flu. Sometimes people may become infected by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.

Can I get swine Flu from consuming or cooking pork?
No. swine flu viruses are not spread by food. You cannot get swine flu from consuming pork or pork products. Eating cleanly handled and cooked pork products is safe.

How can persons with the swine flu infect someone else?
Infected people may be able to infect others beginning 1 day before symptoms start showing up and up to 7 or more days after becoming infacted. That means that individual may be able to spread on the swine flu to someone else before you know he or she is sick, as well as while he or she is sick.
