Trends In Mens Bands
Strange as it may seem the use of a wedding ring by men was not common until recently. Whereas women have worn wedding rings for eons, men have not. The use of tungsten mens rings as a symbol of everlasting love enshrined in marriage can be traced back thousands of years. But not so much for men. It was, in fact, during the second world war that the use of wedding rings by men became more common. (Note that mens wedding rings and men’s wedding bands are interchangeable, both meaning the same thing.) It became the custom for US soldiers going to war to publicise their marital status by the wearing of a man’s wedding ring. They were happy to make public their commitment to their wife by the wearing of a public symbol that declared that commitment to all. Given that this habit of wearing men’s wedding bands was reasonably new it was all the more creditable that these men were willing to forego the marital obscurity available to them from not wearing a ring and actively chose to make a public statement about their choice.
Worn on the left hand in modern Western culture, they belong on the “ring finger”. Traditionally, no other ring (other than an engagement ring) should be worn on that finger. The left hand was believed to have the “vein of love” running along its ring finger, connected directly to the heart. Thus, a ring on that finger was as close to the wearer’s heart at possible. Pinkie tungsten men’s rings have the unique position of being somewhat without a cultural or historical background. There are two examples of variations, however: The Engineer’s Ring or Iron Ring is worn by many Canadian professional engineers, and each one is said to be made from a piece of the poorly-engineered Quebec Bridge that collapsed in the early 1900′s; the other is the Signet ring, which in times past was used to create a stamp or seal, which was used instead of a signature on a document.
Another placement of meaning is not a finger at all. Thumb ring can be a symbol of your sexuality, a fashion statement, or for archery. In some circles, tungsten mens bands on the right hand indicate a gay or lesbian lifestyle. In other circles, of course, sometimes a thumb ring is just a thumb ring – worn there because the piece of jewellery in question was simply too large to be worn on any regular finger, or as a fashion statement. And for some who practice the art of archery, a thumb ring is a tool in a certain style of bow drawing, meant to protect the flesh of the thumb. In the end, it pays to know what sort of men’s ring you are wearing, and while you should be conscious of what finger you wear it on, do not allow these rules to rule your life. A ring is a possession, and as such, you define it – not the other way around.
Yellow gold is of course the traditional band for wedding rings. While people are looking for something unique and different, there are persons who prefer to wear a traditional type of ring to represent their simple personality. A simple wedding band is one example. Men still chose a simple band than the modern rings. A simple thing can look elegant once you personalized it. A simple ring can be unique if you personalized it too. The options of personalizing your own ring includes choosing your own ring settings and band. Then carving or engraving your personal message follows. You can carved your spouse or your name, unforgettable date, a sweet message like the words ” I love you,any design of art, an object or animals. Carving is an art that best expresses one’s personality.
